Yeah there's a lot missing here. Signing an artist that is already popular from a viral TikTok and signing a relatively unknown artist are two very different things that fall under the same umbrella of "new signings". I would argue the first pushes the responsibility of artist development onto the artist and possible management. The marketing spend aspect is interesting to me too because I know a lot of major labels end up hiring outside marketing companies to run campaigns for them, so that's another area where they may be spending a lot on marketing, but they are not as hands on in the process of artist development and marketing.

Its also not clear if these are human artists either. AI artists are becoming a issue and I know for a fact that Universial is hiring for people to mange AI.
